If a picture paints a thousand words, then this video paints a million. This video was taken, last weekend, just a few miles from where I live. This is why I much prefer to ride my bike on the trails:
Comments about bikes on roads
Spend a little time reading the comments that accompany the video. This wasn’t posted very long ago and it’s amazing the reaction it’s gotten. The road biking issue is obviously a hot topic.
I always enjoy reading the comments from both sides of the argument for and against bikes on the roads.

can anyone say “conceal carry???” this driver is a serious threat on the road. since he is from the shallow end of the gene pool, i would have had no qualms dispatching him and his horn to the pearly gates. here in ohio “the make my day law” has been extended to cover “your castle”…….ie… your car…..if you feel you or your familes life is in grave danger. mr. driver…..”meet my little friend!!!”……honk on my 9mm browning auto.
So let me get this straight, Wink; Because this guy honks his horn like a maniac, he’s “a serious threat on the road.” But you “would have no qualms dispatching him…” with a (previously) concealed weapon?
I would say you are both a bit overly aggressive, to say the least.
I was glad to find out that the enraged honker received a penalty, but I think that is sufficient under the circumstances.
I noticed w/ the YouTube video comments section, there were an inordinate number of people who volunteered their suggestions as to what the bikers should have done. I think, under the circumstances, what they did was perfect. They kept their cool, they recorded the incident, and they took action to let the authorities know about this potentially dangerous situation/person.
An alarmingly large subset of commenters proposed violent retribution such as hurling objects at the driver. More surprisingly, quite a few people suggested that the bikers do nothing. Both of those suggestions are misguided. I won’t address the violent suggestions, because those people are just blowing off steam and their bark is likely much worse than their bite.
Doing nothing, however, is probably worse. Who knows how many times the beeping bully has done this before. And what will he do next? Granted, doing nothing is the temporarily “safe” option. But it ignores the problem and passes it off to the next group of bikers this guy decides to confront. Thanks to these bikers taking action a.) this guy is now on the radar of law enforcement and b.) there has been charges filed that may make the horny driver think twice before being a bully to other road users who weigh a couple tons less.
Although my view from atop the soap-box was splendid, I will now step down and cede the floor to someone else. (-:

Kevin I first spotted this video in an on-line cycle magazine. I re-posted it onto my “Facebook” page and have received mixed comments.

The comments on YouTube were mixed too, Barry. Some people out there really hate bicyclists.
