Manhattan’s longest car-free bike path will amaze you when you realize what great biking venues are available in NYC. From Inwood Park in the north to The Battery (Battery Park) in the south, this bike path has it all. First of all, you can access this trail from anywhere in New York City by utilizing the subway system. For example, you can reach the northern portion of the trail by taking the A Train to either Dyckman St or Inwood/207th St. To get to the southern end of the trail, you might want to consider taking the 1 line to Whitehall St.
But what about a bike? You have a few options here. If you own a bike, that’s ideal. However, most of the people reading this don’t have that option. At least you don’t have that option in Manhattan. So the next option is to rent a bike. You have numerous bike rental choices available in NYC. I have included some bike rental options with this post. However, my favorite option for bicycles in New York is the CitiBike program. This is a bike share system that allows you to rent either regular or electric bikes within New York City. You can rent by the hour, day or year. The bikes are easy to acquire (with hundreds of bike stations around the city) and to ride. One of the only downsides to this program is that you can only use the bikes for a half hour or 45 minutes at a time (or pay extra by the minute). But you can exchange bikes as often as you’d like. The CitiBike app is indispensable for finding bike stations along your route.
