Segment 8 of the Colorado trail is fairly easy to access and is very well maintained. Thanks to diligent trail adopters and volunteers, this segment, although rugged and lengthy, is one of the highlights of the famous Colorado Trail. As you can see from the pictures below, it is also quite beautiful. Segment 8 of the Colorado Trail has accommodations not available in most of the other CT segments. In addition to trailside camping and Copper Mountain Lodging, Janet’s Cabin, one of the Tenth Mountain Cabins is available with reservations and lots of advanced planning.
Some highlights of Colorado Trail segment 8 include:
- Copper Mountain Ski Resort – Great for restocking, replenishing & refreshments
- Janet’s Cabin – A Tenth Mountain cabin
- lots of pretty streams
- wildlife galore – marmots, pikas, deer, elk, moose, etc.
- Searle Pass
- Kokomo Pass
- nice campsites
- Mount of the Holy Cross
- Camp Hale of Tenth Mountain Division fame
