This multi-season trail is paved and makes a great trail for hiking and bike riding. Certain stretches of the Olympic Discovery Trail are also wonderful for tandem bikes, recumbents, stand-up vehicles and equestrians. It runs through three medium-to-large sized towns, so offers plenty of opportunities to find food. It runs fairly close to a large bike shop in Sequim for repairs, if needed.
It is recommended to start near the Olympic Discovery trailhead at Blyn which is located between the town of Sequim and its outlying bedroom community of Diamond Point. From there, the trail is paved all the way to the fairly large town of Port Angeles. If you are looking for lodging, use the Booking dot com link below to find lodging in Port Angeles or Sequim.
Although the trail has an asphalt surface and generally follows the grade of a disused rail line, it does have some steep portions, so make sure to bring a bike with plenty of gears or, better yet, an electric-assist bicycle. Although the Olympic Peninsula is notorious for lots of rain, this portion of the trail is located in what is locally known as the Rain Shadow. Theoretically, it gets much less rain than other nearby regions, but it is still a good idea to pack rain gear.
