The Trail of the Couer d’ Alenes, in northern Idaho, is one of America’s best rail trails. Currently, it is a little over 72 miles of smooth pavement that follows gorgeous Idaho waterways nearly the entire length. In the fairly near future, this trail will be connected to the Route of the Hiawatha on one end and the Idaho Centennial Trail on the other end. In turn, those trails connect to trails in Washington and Montana so that it will be possible to bike or hike all the way from western Montana all the way to the Pacific coast.
