Virgin River Trail

Even though the St. George area is well known for its wonderful mountain bike trails, it also has some fantastic trail options for smooth-surfaced trails. One of the original St. George multi-use trails is the Virgin River Trail that follows its namesake river as it cuts through the heart of town.

The Virgin River Trail offers some great southwest scenery and wildlife viewing. You will see a plethora of lithe little lizards along the trail but may also be witness to roadrunners, coyotes and humongous jackrabbits. The builders of the Virgin River Trail came up with a unique solution to circumnavigating a golf course along the way; they just surrounded the trail with protective netting to allow golfers and trail-users to enjoy their respective outdoor hobbies in safety and peace.

If you are in the St. George area, whether on your way to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City, stop in to enjoy the great trails. While traveling on Highway 15, take the exit just to the north of where you cross the Virgin River. You have to drive through a store parking lot and then beneath an underpass to get to the trailhead. But it’s worth the detour. This trail is the jewell of St. George.
